From the person with the least hair experience to the hair pro everyone can follow these simple steps to a great hair style. Whether your attempting a top/low knot, sock bun, messy bun or making an actual bow you first need to think of placement, size, texture and overall look you are wanting to achieve. All of these can be done more sleek and simplefor a dressier look or styled more tousled and casual. It all depends on what look you're going for. For a sleeker look if you have frizzy hair it's better to start with some anti-frizz cream to smooth out your hair before executing your style. Cream keeps the hair from being greasy or from getting "crunchy" like a gel or mousse would make it. For a more textured or tousled look a texture spray is always great or use a little pomade on your finger tips and cause separation with your fingers.Be careful not to use to much though because it could weigh down the hair. If you have fine, limp hair lacking volume a teasing brush is your best friend. Tease the crown of your hair underneath then lightly brush over the top to smooth it out. This will give you that little "bump" with out a "bump it." For a sock bun you can use an actual sock or buy a hair doughnut at Sally's or Claire's in your hair color and in different sizes. For shorter to medium length hair you can pull your hair in a pony tail then roll the hair doughnut the traditional way. For longer hair I recommend placing the doughnut around the pony with your hair through it then spreading the hair around it. Put a twister around the bun then take the remaining hair and either wrap it around the bun or braid it then wrap it. For a casual everyday quick style I like to tie my hair in an actual knot and pull the hair through and either curl or deep wave the ends or just tuck them in and hide them all together. Regardless of the style you choose don't be afraid to try new things and make it you!
